Nicki Minaj is reportedly stepping away from music — and sources say it’s all tied to her long-running conflict with Jay-Z.
In a fiery post on X (formerly Twitter), Minaj declared she would shelve her next album and cease releasing music, citing tensions with Jay-Z and Roc Nation CEO Desiree Perez. She criticized their attempts to “patch things up,” claimed they had begged her for a tour and album, and insisted she refused. She also referenced a failed casino license bid tied to Jay-Z, and accused Perez of wrongdoing, even using harsh language to convey her anger.
Minaj claimed that Jay-Z left her to believe he would let Perez “take the fall alone,” while calling Perez a “snitch” and accusing her of civil rights violations, false imprisonment, and conspiracy. She concluded her barrage by announcing: “Ok I’m not going to put out the album anymore. No more music. Hope you’re happy now [JAY-Z]. Bye, Barbz. Love you for life.”
Although Minaj hasn’t formally confirmed a follow-up album, she had previously hinted it might arrive in March 2026.
What’s Behind the Feud?
Minaj and Jay-Z’s relationship has been contentious for some time. She’s publicly targeted Perez and Jay-Z multiple times. She criticized their choice of Kendrick Lamar over Lil Wayne for the Super Bowl Halftime show and claimed she wasn’t properly compensated when Jay-Z sold Tidal in 2021.
Additionally, Minaj has been involved in social media spats with Cardi B, including over remarks related to her relationship with Stefon Diggs — a back-and-forth that played out over several days, especially after Cardi B released her second album, Am I The Drama?
