Jim Jones is preparing to respond to Cam’ron with a powerful new track, which he debuted during an emotional tribute at a Harlem mural dedicated to their late friend and Cam’ron’s cousin, Derek “Bloodshed” Armstead. Early Saturday morning (January 18), Jones went live on Instagram to perform the unreleased song in front of the East 110th Street mural commemorating Bloodshed, who tragically passed away in a car accident in 1997.
The setting carries deep significance. Bloodshed was a founding member of the Harlem rap collective Children of the Corn, a group that played a crucial role in shaping the local hip-hop scene. The collective included notable names like Cam’ron, Ma$e, Darrell “Digga” Branch, and later, the iconic Big L. Jones, who shared a high school bond with Bloodshed, has often acknowledged the profound influence Bloodshed had on his life and music.
In a 2018 interview with Complex, Jones reminisced, “I used to pay Bloodshed a quarter to freestyle. By the end of the day, I’d have given him $3. God bless his soul—he was one of a kind.”
