Jamie Foxx’s birthday celebration took an unexpected turn when a night out with family ended in injury. According to reports from TMZ, Foxx was dining at the Beverly Hills location of Mr. Chow on Friday night, December 13, with his daughters and ex Kristin Grannis. The evening escalated when police were called to the scene following a reported altercation inside the restaurant.
A spokesperson for Foxx explained what happened: “Jamie Foxx was at his birthday dinner when someone from another table threw a glass that hit him in the mouth. He had to get stitches and is recovering. The police were called, and the matter is now in law enforcement’s hands.”
The incident coincides with the release of Foxx’s new Netflix comedy special, Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was…, where the entertainer reflects on his near-death health scare earlier this year. In the special, Foxx revisits his April 2023 medical emergency, revealing for the first time that it was caused by a brain bleed leading to a stroke.
Online rumors, however, had attributed his health crisis to more sinister causes, including a conspiracy theory involving music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs. These claims gained traction after Joe Rogan discussed them on his podcast in November. Foxx, however, shut down the speculation in his comedy special.
“The internet said Puffy tried to kill me. That’s what the internet was saying!” Foxx joked during the special, recorded in October. “I know what you’re thinking – ‘Did he?’ Hell nah. I left them parties early. I was out by 9. Something didn’t look right. It’s slippery in here.”
Foxx added more light-hearted jabs at Diddy throughout the special. While recounting his brush with death, he quipped: “I looked at the end of the tunnel and thought I saw the devil like, ‘Come on.’ Or is that Puffy? I’m just playing.” He also referenced the widely circulated rumors about bottles of baby oil being found on Diddy’s property, joking, “If it was Puffy, he’d have a flaming bottle of Johnson &… I’m just kidding.”
The special’s three-night taping in Atlanta was an emotional journey for Foxx, as captured in behind-the-scenes footage shared by Gayle King. Speaking candidly, Foxx admitted revisiting his health crisis was challenging.
“It was an excruciating time to open those wounds every single day for three nights,” Foxx shared. “The worry is what gets you. You’ve got a great show in the room, but you don’t know what people will laugh at or not. Any comedian will tell you that’s the hardest part – the worry.”
Reflecting on the experience, Foxx humorously promised to keep his next comedy special light-hearted. “My next jokes will start out, ‘Knock, knock!’ I’ll do an hour and a half of ‘Knock, knock’ jokes,” he joked.
Despite the challenges, Foxx’s new special is receiving praise for its raw honesty and comedic flair, proving once again why he remains one of the most versatile entertainers in the industry.
