Beyoncé Joins Forces with Moët Hennessy to Introduce SirDavis, a Pioneering American Whisky
Beyoncé Knowles-Carter has partnered with Moët Hennessy, a leading subsidiary of LVMH, to launch SirDavis, an innovative new whisky that blends tradition with modern craftsmanship. This historic collaboration reflects the shared vision between Knowles-Carter and Moët Hennessy, aiming to redefine the American whisky landscape.
The Birth of SirDavis
SirDavis is the result of years of meticulous development. As a Japanese whisky enthusiast, Knowles-Carter sought Moët Hennessy's expertise to create a distinctive flavor profile that embodies her ideal whisky experience. Moët Hennessy, already exploring ways to expand its presence in the American whisky market, found the timing perfect for this groundbreaking partnership.
"I've always been drawn to the power and confidence I feel when drinking quality whisky and wanted to invite more people to experience that feeling," says SirDavis Founder Beyoncé Knowles-Carter. "When I discovered that my great-grandfather had been a moonshine man, it felt like my love for whisky was fated. SirDavis is a way for me to pay homage to him, uniting us through a new shared legacy."
A Tribute to Legacy
Named after Beyoncé’s paternal great-grandfather, Davis Hogue, SirDavis honors the history of a man who was a farmer and moonshiner during Prohibition. Hogue famously hid whisky bottles in cedar trees for friends and family. Today, SirDavis bottles proudly stand on the top shelves of fine purveyors worldwide, continuing a legacy four generations in the making.
Crafting a Unique Whisky
Moët Hennessy enlisted Dr. Bill Lumsden, a celebrated Master Distiller known for his work with Glenmorangie and Ardbeg, to spearhead the creation of SirDavis. The whisky features a rare mash bill composed of 51% rye and 49% malted barley, offering a unique flavor profile that balances the robust flavors of American rye with the elegance of Japanese and Scotch whiskies.
"With SirDavis, we sought to challenge category norms and present something truly innovative," said Lumsden. The whisky undergoes secondary maturation in sherry casks, adding a layer of bold sophistication to its taste.
Recognized Excellence
SirDavis has already garnered accolades, including the Best In Class award for American Whiskey at the 2023 SIP Awards, a Gold Medal (95 points) from the 2023 New York International Spirits Competition, and a 93-point rating from the 2023 Ultimate Spirits Challenge. These prestigious awards affirm SirDavis's quality and its position as a standout in the whisky world.
A Design That Embodies Luxury
Beyoncé's influence extends to the brand's bottle design, which features a tall, elegant structure with ribbed glass that captures light beautifully. A black medallion with a bronzed horse symbolizes Knowles-Carter's Texas roots, adding a touch of strength and heritage to the design.
Bringing SirDavis to Market
Finished, blended, and bottled in Texas, SirDavis marks Moët Hennessy's first spirits brand developed entirely within the United States. Retailing at $89, SirDavis is available for pre-order on SirDavis.com and will be released in retail stores across the U.S. and select international locations in September 2024.
