The two-time world champion put on a tremendous display on SHOWTIME Pay-Per-View on Saturday night to maintain his undefeated record and get one step closer to facing Canelo Alvarez.
In Saturday night's SHOWTIME PPV main event, which was hosted from Michelob ULTRA Arena at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, David "El Monstruo" BenavÃdez lived up to his nickname and billings as possibly the sport's most devastating offensive weapon as he defended his Interim WBC Super Middleweight Title and dominated former two-division champion Demetrius "Boo Boo" Andrade with a stoppage after the sixth round.
After Benavidez, competing as a southpaw for the first time in seven years, thoroughly beat and bloodied Andrade in what may have been his career-defining performance, the fight came to a stop when Andrade's trainer forbade their client to leave the corner to begin the seventh round. Andrade (32-1, 19 KOs) lost his first fight, but BenavÃdez (28-0, 24 KOs) maintained his perfect record.
“I think I just solidified myself as a dominant force here,” BenavÃdez said. “I just reminded everyone who the real champion at 168 is. Who wants to see me versus Canelo? I'm going to be super middleweight champion of the world, three-time world champion. Now just give me the fight that we all want to see. Who wants to see BenavÃdez versus Canelo?”
"I just told Mike Tyson that I love him and thank you so much for the motivation he's given me,” BenavÃdez said. “It's not every day a boxing legend like Mike Tyson gives people nicknames, so I just want to live up to my name.
