The hip-hop scene is once again in grief following the shooting death of Migos musician Takeoff in Houston on Tuesday. For more than ten years, Takeoff's songs helped define the sound of a generation.

"We lost a young legend," "Hustlin'" rapper Rick Ross tweeted.

“I got the best memories of all of us seeing the world together and bringing light to every city we touch. That’s what I’ll focus on for now. rest easy space man Take,” he wrote, along with a rocket emoji.

After attending a private event, Takeoff, actual name Kirshnik Khari Ball, was shot and killed early on Tuesday outside the 810 Billiards & Bowling in downtown Houston, according to authorities. He was 28. The other person present at the time, Quavo, who is Takeoff's uncle and makes up one-third of the Migos, was unharmed.

Police requested information from the public and said that an argument resulted in gunfire. According to police, who stated that the investigation is ongoing, there is no evidence that the rapper was involved in the argument.

Takeoff was a part of the Atlanta-based, Grammy-nominated hip-hop group Migos, which he co-founded with his cousin Offset and the group's unofficial frontman Quavo.

The Georgia band Migos, which was founded in 2008, shot to fame in 2013 with the release of their single "Versace."
