Got a chance to link with Aftermath music producer Focus... We talked about some of the projects he has coming up and he gave some tips to up and coming producers.
• We understand that you are currently looking for talent, did you find it or are you still searching for the next big act?
- Still looking but, I am LOVING the process. I have found some incredible talent, don't get me wrong. It all plays a part...
• Do you have a preference with the type of artist you like to work with, rappers, singers etc.
- I have had the honor of working with the best rappers the industry has to offer. I am definitely not looking for rap. All other genres are welcomed...
• Are you currently working with Aftermath?
- Yes...
• There is this influx of new producers trying to break into the game, do you feel the market is saturated with too many producers or is it a good thing?
- Well, there are a lot of cereals in the cereal isle. For some reason, none of the different cereal companies have gone bankrupt or even disappeared. It really goes to show that, even with something like cereal, there is an active appetite for different cereal/flavors. Just like cereal, the best creatives are the ones who survive and become staples in this game...
• What are some of the projects that you are working on currently?
- Finished a few songs with Little Brother. About to witness the release of a project I did with James Savage aka Jayo Felony. Finished and released a project with Omar Gooding bka Big O. called 'The Excuse'. Releasing a song with Cocoa Sarai on her up coming project and i'm in the works on new music with Aftermath, Marsha Ambrosius, Xzibit and doing some mix engineer work for a few artists. I really am starting to love the mixing side of music now...
• Should a new music producer try to get placements, or should they be trying to discover the next big artist like a Kendrick Lamar?
- Dre told me to find my Eminem! You want to find the artist that believes in you and your sound just as much as you believe in them…
• If you could drop a jewel on a up and coming producer, what would your best advice be to break into the music game?
- Stop looking for the quick payday and brace yourself for the work ahead. It looks easy but the behind the scenes efforts are what truly give insight to the outcome on EVERY artists. Every real super star has an amazing back story about their come up. Embrace your journey, all the highs and lows, and keep pressing forward...
• Do you have any goals over the next 2-3 years that you would like to share with us?
- Yes. I plan to aid in the narrative change with regards to the industry. If it means putting a label together that has a form foundation in integrity, then so be it. I never wanted to become a label but I never want to have to do business with snakes and all that. Time for the narrative to change…
• What artists are you listening to right now?
- .Paak... K. Dot... Stevie... Prince... My music... My artists... My friends...
• Where can people submit music or follow what your doing online? also any last shout outs or mentions
- Send music to Info@nvzxn.com or visit www.nvzxn.com. Shout outs to my business partner, best friend and muse, my wife Dyan. Shouts to Dr. Dre, Ty Cannon, everyone at Aftermath Ent., and SHOUTS TO SPATE MAG...
