Kendrick Lamar's "Black Panther" Soundtrack Goes Platinum

Kendrick Lamar's "Black Panther" Soundtrack Goes Platinum

(XXLMag)

Damn. isn't the only Kendrick Lamar album to recently reach platinum status. Earlier this month, the Recording Industry Association of America announced the K. Dot-curated Black Panther: The Album has been certified platinum.

Released on Feb. 9, the Black Panther soundtrack earned platinum status, as well as a gold certification on May 10. Producer Sounwave celebrated the feat on Instagram, posting a photo of the platinum plaque. "#blackpanther.. more blessings #TDE," he wrote.

While Kendrick and TDE's Anthony "Top Dawg" Tiffith curated the album, K. Dot also appears on a number of the project's 14 songs. The rapper is featured on the album's singles, "All the Stars" with SZA, "Pray for Me" with The Weeknd and "King's Dead" with Jay Rock, Future and James Blake.

Reaching platinum status this fast is nothing new for Kendrick. In 2017, following the April release of Damn., the album was certified platinum one month later. The project then moved another 1 million units shortly after that, reaching double-platinum in July.

Kendrick can currently be found on the road with his fellow TDE partners on The Championship Tour. The trek kicked off on May 4 in Vancouver, Canada and continues tonight (May 25) in Atlanta. The tour will continue to run through June 16 when it wraps up in Pittsburgh.
