Michael Alexander Promoted to EVP, International For Def Jam, Island and Republic

Michael Alexander rises to executive VP, International for Def Jam Recordings, Island Records and Republic Records.

A Universal Music Group stalwart, Alexander has played a key role in releases from Justin Bieber, Drake, The Weeknd, Ariana Grande and many others. He began his career as an intern in 2003 before rising into an assistant role two years later at Island Def Jam. In the years to come, Alexander impressed in several executive posts, including promotions to VP, International in 2012 and senior VP, International in 2013.

"Ever since Mike took on the reins of representing Republic’s roster outside of America, our profits and chart share across the globe have grown exponentially,” said Monte Lipman, chairman and CEO of Republic Records in a statement. “His promotion and accolades are well deserved.”

David Massey, president of Island Records, adds: “Mike is an extraordinary executive who has been an integral part of Island’s international success with artists including Shawn Mendes, Demi Lovato, Fall Out Boy, The Killers, Nick Jonas, just to name a few. The Island family couldn’t be more proud to work alongside Mike and his incredible team.”

In his new position, Alexander directs artist campaigns outside of the U.S., including marketing, publicity and promotion and he remains based in New York.
