University of Virginia football player wins $100K lottery

(Ny Post) A college athlete is getting a big payday and the NCAA can’t do a thing about it – and all he had to do was win the lotto.

Chuck Davis, a cornerback at the University of Virginia, matched all five numbers in the Virginia Lottery’s Cash 5 game, earning a cool $100,000.

Davis celebrated with his grandmother, who had suggested the winning numbers, according to a release from the Virginia Lottery.

“We shouted together,” Davis said, according to the release. “I looked at the numbers on the website after the drawing and said, ‘I … won!’ ” Davis was on his way home from an early-morning football workout and stopped at a 7-Eleven to buy coffee for his mother.

While there, he decided to play the lotto numbers his grandmother previously suggested. While neither the NCAA nor University of Virginia had commented on the lottery winnings as of late Friday afternoon, previous college athletes to benefit from similar windfalls have suffered no eligibility repercussions. Davis, who transferred from Nebraska, sat out the 2016 season for UVA due the NCAA transfer rule.
