Hip Hop News: Young Guru To Join USC's Thornton School Of Music As Artist-In-Residence

Young Guru- USC

The University of Southern California just added hip hop greatness to their faculty roster.
For the 2013-14 school year, Grammy Award-nominated audio engineer/producer/DJ Young Guru will join USC's Thorton School of Music as an artist-in-residence. According to HipHopDX, he'll be working with students in the Contemporary Music Division, which includes those in Music Industry, Music Technology and Popular Music categories, lecturing them on hip hop, electronic music, the music industry and songwriting. “I would like our culture to understand its value and its reference point in history. I want to preserve the culture and value of hip hop so that people understand how big it is across the world," he said in a press release. "I want it to be fully understood by people, to be studied and revered the same way you would study jazz artists or opera at a class in a university.”Aside from his lessons, he will also be working with the school faculty to develop a new Music Production degree program.Guru is best known for his work with Def Jam Recordings and Roc-A-Fella Records (specifically a majority of Jay Z's albums) as well as being a major part of the musical careers of Rihanna, Ludacris, Beyonce, Mariah Carey, Fabolous, T.I. and more.
