SEO Title: Rick Ross Arrested in Miami Beach on Domestic Violence Charges, Pleads Not Guilty

Meta Description: Rapper Rick Ross was arrested in Miami Beach on felony battery by strangulation and misdemeanor battery charges. The hip-hop mogul has pleaded not guilty and denies the allegations.

Rapper and Maybach Music Group founder Rick Ross was arrested Thursday, October 1, 2026, in Miami Beach in connection with domestic violence allegations involving a woman with whom authorities say he had been in a relationship.

Ross, whose legal name is William Leonard Roberts II, voluntarily surrendered to Miami Beach police Thursday morning. He was booked on one felony count of battery by strangulation and one misdemeanor battery charge, according to police and court records.

What Police Say Happened

The charges stem from an alleged incident on August 28 at Ross' residence on Star Island in Miami Beach.

According to police, the woman told investigators that Ross struck her multiple times during an altercation and restricted her breathing by twisting the collar of her clothing. Police said investigators received a statement from the woman as well as photographs documenting alleged injuries and surveillance video.

The incident was reported to authorities on September 29, approximately a month after it allegedly occurred.

These claims remain allegations and have not been proven at trial.

Rick Ross Denies the Allegations

Ross has denied wrongdoing.

His attorneys said he is being wrongfully accused and emphasized that the police report was filed about a month after the alleged incident. A not-guilty plea was entered on Ross' behalf Thursday.

Ross also publicly maintained his innocence after leaving jail Thursday.

Ross Released on Bond

A Miami-Dade judge set Ross' bond at a total of $5,000 and ordered him to stay away from the accuser while the case proceeds.

The court also ordered Ross to have no direct or indirect contact with her and prohibited him from possessing firearms while the case is pending. His arraignment is currently scheduled for October 22.

The Case Draws Attention Across Hip-Hop

The arrest immediately attracted attention because of Ross' position in hip-hop.

The Miami-area rapper became a major figure in the industry following the 2006 breakout of "Hustlin'" and his debut album Port of Miami. He later founded Maybach Music Group, which became home to artists including Meek Mill and Wale. Ross has also received nine Grammy Award nominations during his career.

The case is now entering the court process, and the allegations remain unproven. Ross has pleaded not guilty and maintains that he is innocent.
