The lawsuit against Carter and Combs was voluntarily dismissed with prejudice in February 2025, meaning those claims could not be refiled.
## Accuser Now Says Allegations Against Jay-Z Were False
In her new sworn declaration, the woman says she never met or spoke with Carter and that her allegations identifying him were false.
Her current attorney, James Blair Newman Jr., said that she maintains that she was a victim of sexual assault but was entirely mistaken when she identified Carter as someone responsible.
She also apologized to Carter and his family for the harm caused by the allegations.
## Jay-Z's Legal Battle Continues
Following the new declaration, Carter voluntarily dismissed Jane Doe as a defendant in his ongoing malicious-prosecution lawsuit.
However, his litigation against attorney Tony Buzbee and Buzbee's law firm continues.
Carter alleges that the attorneys pursued the accusations despite inconsistencies and insufficient corroboration. Buzbee has disputed allegations of wrongdoing and has maintained that his firm had reasons at the time to believe the woman's account.
The woman's recantation does not by itself determine what her former attorneys knew or believed when the original lawsuit was pursued. That issue remains part of the ongoing litigation.
## A Major Development in the Jay-Z Case
The sworn declaration significantly changes the public record surrounding the accusations against Jay-Z.
What began as an explosive allegation against one of hip-hop's most prominent figures has now resulted in the accuser formally stating that she never met Carter and that her allegations identifying him were false.
The remaining legal battle could now focus increasingly on how the original allegations were investigated and ultimately brought before the court.
