Lil Durk’s Father Asks Fans for Prayers as Murder-for-Hire Trial Begins

Lil Durk’s father is calling on supporters to keep his son and family in their prayers as the Chicago rapper’s highly anticipated federal murder-for-hire trial gets underway in Los Angeles.

Dontay “Big Durk” Banks shared an emotional message on social media ahead of the proceedings, asking fans, friends and supporters to continue showing the family love throughout what is expected to be a lengthy trial.

Jury selection began Thursday, August 20, 2026, marking a major turning point in a federal case that has kept Lil Durk behind bars since his arrest in October 2024.

Lil Durk’s Father Calls for Prayer and Support

Ahead of the start of the trial, Big Durk addressed supporters in a social media video and emphasized the importance of prayer as the family prepares for the weeks ahead.

He said the trial is expected to last approximately three to four weeks and encouraged supporters to continue making du’a, the Islamic practice of supplication or prayer, for Durk and his family.

Big Durk also expressed confidence about the outcome, telling supporters that the family believes they will ultimately be victorious.

Lil Durk’s Murder-for-Hire Case Explained

Lil Durk, whose real name is Durk Devontay Banks, is facing serious federal charges connected to an alleged 2022 murder-for-hire plot targeting rapper Quando Rondo.

Federal prosecutors allege that Durk was involved in arranging retaliation following the November 2020 killing of his close friend and fellow Chicago rapper King Von.

The alleged plot ultimately led to an August 2022 shooting in Los Angeles. Quando Rondo survived the attack, but his cousin Saviay’a “Lul Pab” Robinson was killed. Durk has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

Jury Selection Begins in Los Angeles

The beginning of jury selection puts one of hip-hop’s most closely watched criminal cases into a critical new phase.

Potential jurors are being evaluated to determine whether they can fairly and impartially consider the evidence presented by prosecutors and Lil Durk’s defense team.

According to reports from the first day of jury selection, prospective jurors were given questionnaires, with attorneys expected to further examine potential jurors as the selection process continues.

The trial is expected to attract significant attention because of Lil Durk’s status as one of the biggest artists to emerge from Chicago’s drill movement and because of the evidence prosecutors may attempt to introduce.

What Happens Next in the Lil Durk Trial?

Once a jury is selected, federal prosecutors will begin laying out their case against Lil Durk and his co-defendants, while Durk’s attorneys will have an opportunity to challenge the government’s allegations and evidence.

With Big Durk estimating that the proceedings could continue for several weeks, the case could remain one of the biggest stories in hip-hop throughout the remainder of the trial.

For now, Lil Durk’s family is publicly leaning on faith and support from fans as the rapper fights the federal charges against him.

Lil Durk remains presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
