Chris Brown Files $500 Million Defamation Lawsuit Against Warner Bros. Over Rape Claims in Documentary

Chris Brown has filed a $500 million defamation lawsuit against Warner Bros. and others involved in the documentary Chris Brown: A History of Violence. The film, which premiered in October 2024, includes allegations from an unnamed woman who claims the singer raped her aboard Diddy’s boat in 2020.

These allegations had previously been brought forward in a $20 million lawsuit but were dismissed without prejudice after evidence revealed the story had been fabricated.

In the lawsuit filed on Tuesday, January 21, Brown accuses Warner Bros. and production company Ample Entertainment of “promoting and publishing false information in their pursuit of likes, clicks, and downloads.” Brown alleges that the film was released despite the producers knowing it was “full of lies and deception.”

“This case is about the media putting their own profits over the truth,” the lawsuit states. “They did so after being provided proof that their information was false, and their storyteller, ‘Jane Doe,’ had not only been discredited multiple times but was, in fact, a perpetrator of intimate partner violence and an aggressor herself.”

Despite never being found guilty of a sex-related crime, Brown’s legal battles and history of violent incidents have long been publicized. Most notably, he pleaded guilty to assaulting then-girlfriend Rihanna in 2009. He has also been involved in other incidents, including altercations with Drake and Frank Ocean, as well as being accused of harassment by ex-girlfriend Karrueche Tran, who obtained a five-year restraining order against him in 2017.

The documentary Chris Brown: A History of Violence also revisits other alleged violent incidents, such as the assault of a female fan in 2016 and claims that Brown assaulted and imprisoned his former manager the same year, leading to a confidential settlement.

This latest legal battle underscores Brown’s ongoing struggle to address what he claims is false information damaging his reputation and career.
