Spate Magazine Interview With Singer Mylezia

Mylezia Interview With Spate Magazine

We got a chance to speak with Mylezia on her recent success and more. She is finding her way in the music industry and here is how she is doing it.

We have been following your career so far and we see you have been doing some festivals and opening for some great artists.
Tell us about how that is helping you take your career to the next level.

The last year has been an amazing year for me and my team. I’ve been training with AnkRa from “MTV” making the band and working on my writing skills. This year I took time to really get in touch with who I am as an artist verses who they say I should be.
I’ve been blessed to open for H.E.R., Cardi B, Future, Meek Mill, Gucci Mane, Yo Gotti, Tweet and so many amazing artists. I toured the West Coast with the High School Nation Festival performing in front of an average audience of 2-3000 each day. Clint Saunders, CEO of MIH Events, included me in his College Homecoming and Spring Tour Series as well. I was a premier act for the Lady Bug Festival in my home town and that was very exciting. I worked with Joey Harris and his team this year. One of the highlights was being booked to headline my own show in Birmingham, AL.

How is Jeff Robinson involved in your career?

Mr. Robinson is an amazing music executive and he’s provided me with so much knowledge.

He believes in me and knows the challenge that new artist face. He’s opened several doors for me and for that I’m grateful. I had the privilege to open up for his artist “H.E.R.” on the opening night of her Lights On Tour in D.C. She’s amazing! He is a great mentor.

What are some of your new goals going forward?

I am focusing on my EP. Listening to production and creating music that represents who I am as a artist. I listen to people say that I’m boring because I don’t drink, do drugs or party every night. They feel that music only sells if you are talking about those subjects. Trying to perform music that doesn’t represent who you are as an artist doesn’t work for me. I love music. I’ve witnessed some amazing independent artist such as Daniel Caesar create real music and be successful. My goal in 2018 is to release a body of work that makes people vibe and feel my soul. I want to tour and travel abroad in 2018. But it’s all about the music and the fans. So in this new year…… I want to build a stronger fan base by releasing music that touches their soul. You want people to listen and say I feel her.

Tell us the good and the bad of your career and what you have learned over the past 2 years.

I’ve learned to trust myself more. One of the bad things that new artists face is the critics. It’s so easy for people who do not financially invest in your career to tell you what you should do or how you should do it. This dream cost money and I have to live within my means. I have to grind and put in the time but also set realistic goals. The upside is God is always making a way out of no way for me to accomplish my goals. I’m from Delaware. There are not many opportunities so I’m grateful to have a mother/manager that has taught me to build relationships. So much good has come from the relationships I’ve built from social networks.

Do you have any events coming up?

Yes, I am preparing for a tour and festival season. We’ve been booking some great events in 2018 but again ……my focus is my EP. Hoping to get in the studio with Modesty Lycan and Keith Johnson real soon.

Have you gotten any great advice from celebrities or industry people?

Yes, of course but the greatest advise I have received come from people who are just like me that gave up this dream too soon. They see me grinding and encourage me to keep pushing.

What keeps you going? What keeps you going even when things seem so difficult?

My mother keeps me going. She is my number 1 supporter. My family and my team push me. People like Ankra, Clint Saunders, Jeff Robinson, Will Simmons, Marcus Turner…watching the expression on my grandmother Miranda and great grandparents Louise and Alfred as I succeed keep me going. Music keeps me going. I cant imagine doing anything else. The people that Im able to meet as I travel keep me going.

When can we see some music videos?

I am releasing a music video for my single "Party of One" in December. The record was produced by Ricodaproducer and written by Darius Coleman and WizGamb. Will Ngo directed and shot my music video. He is Meek Mill's
videographer. He's really good. Clint Saunders came up with the concept and I had my girls Slay and Faith on deck so I'm super excited about releasing the visuals to this record.

Have any shout outs or thank-yous?

There are so many people that I would like to thank that have been a blessing to me like DJ Dellmatic, Jontae Willingham, Chuck Finney, Modesty Lycan, BiPolar Media, my lawyer Jason Berger, Mike “Doeboyy”, Clint Saunders, Jeff Robinson and Shawn Grant, Joey Harris, Klassik, Fleet Djs and Keith Johnson.

Thanks for giving us the update on your career.
